Code of Behaviour

Code of Behaviour

Aims:
When we wrote this code we tried to think of what Gaelscoil Chill Dara needs. We want our school to be a place where we all can feel safe and secure and able to learn and improve.
We all promise to try to be positive and to see the good in people and things
We think the most important word for our code is ‘respect’. We should have respect for our teachers, for other pupils, for our parents, for visitors to the school, for school property and most of all for ourselves

Principles
We know that people are not all the same and we celebrate that we are different from each other
We all agree that if pupils behave in a caring, orderly way it will happen because we all work together, pupils, teachers and parents
We promise to try our very best to be fair to everybody.

School Guidelines

Our school is a Gaelscoil so we promise to use Gaeilge whenever we can.
We will walk indoors, except in the hall during PE lessons and we will be very quiet moving around the school because we know that other children are learning
When breaktime ends we will walk to our líne and stand quietly.
We will be friendly with other children. We will respect everyone, even those close.
We will always be mannerly and friendly with teachers and visitors.
We will be very careful with things that belong to the school
We will try to make sure our parents get us to school in time.
We will give múinteoir a note when we miss a day or more.
We will do our best in class to follow the directions our múinteoir gives us
We will leave mobile phones at home. If we do bring them to school we understand that the school may take them from us for two weeks.
We will put an end to any bullying in Gaelscoil Chill Dara. If we do see it we will tell a teacher straight away.

"GAELSCOIL CHILL DARA IS A BULLY-FREE ZONE ! "

Homework:
We usually get homework from Monday - Thursday. It may happen that pupils do not receive homework. The reasons for homework are:

To help us learn better.
To help us work on our own
To help us to get used to working at home.

No homework is given at week-ends. For Rang 1 and Rang 2, homework should take 1/2 hour, Rang 3 and Rang 4 should take up to 3/4 hour. Teachers will correct homework as soon as they can. Homework for pupils in Ranganna 5, 6 should not take longer that 1 hour. If we can’t do our homework we will bring a note from our parents

How to make the code work
Teachers will praise children by:
A quiet word or sign to show approval.
Something written in a pupil's exercise book.
A visit to another teacher or to the principal for praise
A word of praise in front of a group or class.
Merit stickers or marks.
Allowing children to do some special job.
Telling the child’s parent how good he/she is.
By giving "Ticéid Fhiúntais"

When children break the code the school may:
Talk to pupils
Explain why the child broke the code
Give extra work to do
Talk to parents about the child
Separate the child from his/her friends
Send the child to the principal or deputy principal.
Send a note to parents.
Take note of the behaviour
Ask the child to write out what he/she has done
Suspend the child
Expel the child under Department rules and the Education Act 1998.
