1. Swine Flu Vaccine for Children in School

Dear Parents/Guardians

Greetings from Gaelscoil Chill Dara! I would like to draw your attention to the following:

1.
Parent-Teacher Meetings
It has been our practice to arrange parent-teacher meetings on a ‘one-to one’ basis after school at this time of the year. Unfortunately this year the teachers’ trade union, the INTO has forbidden such meetings outside school time as part of their work to rule campaign against recent government decisions. As we have already lost a lot of teaching time this year, the Board of Management has decided not to organise such meetings this year. Parents will remember that each teacher met the parents of their pupils at the beginning of the year, and meetings will be held with the parents of Naíonáin Bheaga in June when the BIAP profiles are being compiled. Of course any parent who wishes to arrange a meeting with their child’s teacher may do so by contacting the office to make an appointment. I am very sorry to have had to make this decision, which was made after consulting the Parents’ Association and which is in effect for this school year only

2.
A Naíonra in Gaelscoil Chill Dara
The Board of Management has decided that an all-Irish Naíonra will open on site here in Gaelscoil Chill Dara in the school year 2010/2011.I am now requesting applications from qualified people for the position of Stiúrthóir (Director) and Cúntóir (Assistant). Send applications, along with CV to: An Príomhoide, Gaelscoil Chill Dara, An Bóthar Glas, Co. Chill Dara before 19 March 2010. Please do not send applications for places for children in the Naíonra yet.

3.
Catholic Schools
Some parents have informed me that they were disappointed that Gaelscoil Chill Dara was not included on a list of Catholic schools which was published in the St. Conleth’s Parish Newsletter recently. Discussions are ongoing with the Parish about this issue but I can confirm that the school’s Catholic ethos is permanently established and it is not intended to change that. On a related matter, Fr. Ruairí will celebrate Mass for St. Brigid’s Day on Monday next at 10.00 in the school hall.

4.
Punctuality
I am grateful to those parents who ensure that their children reach the school in time each morning. Children should be in the yard from 8.50-9.00

.5.
Unwanted bus tickets
Please return unwanted / unused bus tickets. Tickets may be left with Sorcha in the office.

6.Swine Flu Vaccine for Children in School
Vaccination will take place for children in the school on Thursday, 4 February. Please complete the form which is with this letter and return it to the teacher. Parents do not accompany children for swine flu vaccination in school. If you wish to accompany your child for vaccination please arrange an appointment through www.swineflu.ie or through you local health centre

Go raibh míle maith agat,
Is mise, le meas,

But I would like to sincerely thank parents for their understanding and support and especially those parents who contacted the school with offers of help to get the school ready.

2. A couple of School Closures
Before Christmas we were informed that the school has been selected for a Whole School Evaluation. The report from that evaluation will be published in due course.
